TRP Reforms 2025: Fighting Urban Bias in Broadcasting
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting introduced new TRP guidelines in July 2025, addressing long-standing flaws in audience measurement. Historically, the TRP system has been heavily criticized for an "urban bias," failing to give equal weightage to rural and semi-urban viewers.
The Bharat Media Association welcomes these crucial 2025 reforms. By accurately measuring mofussil viewership, national broadcasters will be financially incentivized to prioritize grassroots rural issues rather than focusing exclusively on sensationalized urban media trials.
