Grid Failure and Hospital Blackout Spark Outrage in North Goa
A massive central grid failure severely crippled North Goa, plunging popular coastal belts into sudden darkness during intense summer heat.
The systemic failure compounded when a local short circuit triggered a four-hour blackout at the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa.
Elevators ceased operating, forcing families to carry vulnerable patients manually, while key medical infrastructure went completely dark.
Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar attributed the primary breakdown to a burnt transformer at the Amona substation and heavy central grid dependence, though public resentment and fierce political criticism continue to mount over inadequate emergency backup infrastructure.
