The Ministry of Railways has approved the final location survey for a proposed Melli-to-Dentam railway line, passing through Jorethang and Legship. With a sanctioned budget of ₹2.25 crore, the Northeast Frontier Railway will conduct detailed planning. Once completed, the railway will significantly improve transport connectivity in southern Sikkim and complement the existing Pakyong airport access. This infrastructure push is part of wider efforts to boost trade, tourism, and regional development in the Himalayan region. Construction timelines will be aligned after survey verification.
