Due to cloudbursts, flash floods, and heavy rain, Himachal Pradesh has experienced widespread devastation, particularly in the Kangra and Kullu districts.

  • Casualties and Missing: At least two people have died, and around 20 are feared swept away in Kangra district. Two bodies were recovered from the Manuni Khad in Kangra, and 15-20 workers at a labour colony near the Indira Priyadarshini Hydroelectric project are feared missing after being swept away by surging floodwaters. Additionally, three people are missing in Kullu district after being washed away by the deluge.

  • Damage and Disruption: Cloudbursts in several parts of Kullu district, including Sainj, Gadsa, and Banjar areas, have damaged houses, school buildings, shops, connecting roads, and small bridges. The Manali-Chandigarh National Highway was partially damaged, and bridges were washed away in areas like Hornagad in Banjar subdivision. Power lines and water supply have also been disrupted in many areas.

  • Rescue Operations: Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local administration, gram panchayat, and revenue department are conducting search and rescue operations.

  • Weather Warnings: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for heavy rain in several districts until June 29 and cautioned about low to moderate flash flood risk in parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts until Thursday evening. Residents are advised to stay away from rivers and drains and avoid unnecessary travel.
