Are We Losing Our Values in the Name of “Modern Freedom”? — A Painful Reflection

Today, I felt compelled to write — not to judge or hurt anyone, but to pause and reflect: am I out of modernity… or do others feel this silent unease too? 💭

During a discussion with media professional, I heard:

“If two adults (18+) mutually agree on a personal relationship, it isn’t wrong — even if it involves multiple partners.”

I respect freedom and choice.

But it made me pause… 🤔

Are we evolving, or are we drifting toward a society where emotional depth is seen as old-fashioned and intimacy is casual?

I grew up believing intimacy was sacred — loving, loyal, lifelong — not temporary or replaceable.

And that realization hurts. 💔

💭 Questions That Won’t Leave My Mind

We label women who do it for money as s-- workers…

But what about the men who pay for it? ❓

Why is the blame so one-sided?

If extramarital relationships are no longer criminalized…

If adult relationships with multiple partners are socially accepted…

Then why are massage centres with similar activities still considered illegal?

Isn’t that a contradiction? 🤷‍♀️

And with these shifting definitions of “freedom,”

are we making people wary of marriage, trust, commitment, and emotional investment? 💔

These aren’t accusations — they’re real, human questions. 🌱

📌 What the Supreme Court Actually Clarified

2018 — Joseph Shine vs Union of India:

Adultery (Section 497 IPC) was decriminalised.

It is no longer a criminal offence, but it is not morally endorsed.

2025 interpretations confirm:

Freedom doesn’t grant a license to break marriages.

A spouse can still pursue civil remedies for emotional harm.

Legal permission ≠ emotional or moral right. ⚖️

💔 Why This Feels Personal

Sometimes I wonder —

Am I too old-fashioned, or are we genuinely losing something priceless? 😔

Commitment feels rare, loyalty seems convenient, trust is fragile, and many shy away from marriage. 💔

Sometimes, I dream of a space

where relationships still hold depth and intimacy still carries meaning. 🌿

This isn’t anger — it’s grief.

Grief for fading values, temporary bonds, and love losing its significance.

💭 A Gentle Invitation to Reflect

Let’s pause and ask ourselves:

Just because something becomes legal,

does it automatically become right? ❓

Should freedom override emotional responsibility?

Are we protecting choice

while unintentionally weakening the foundation of families?

Are we truly progressing…

or quietly losing the values that once made us humane?
