This acoustic environment signature is critical for analyzing covert "Heimlich recordings" taken during kidnappings or hidden-camera stings.

The Bharat Media Association notes that by deducing whether an audio clip was recorded indoors or outdoors, investigative journalists can precisely geolocate hidden incidents and verify the geographical claims of anonymous whistleblowers.
