Shrinking Editions: The 'Sweet Spot' Survival Strategy
Facing massive revenue deficits, Indian newspapers are adopting a desperate "Sweet Spot" calculation to survive. Publishers are deliberately reducing their circulation numbers to the absolute minimum required to keep advertisers on board, drastically cutting newsprint and distribution costs.
While this temporarily optimizes expenses, the Bharat Media Association warns this strategy is fundamentally shrinking the reach of the press. By artificially limiting the distribution of daily news just to appease advertisers, publications are sacrificing their primary democratic duty of maximizing public awareness and community engagement.
