Ladakh’s Quest for Constitutional Safeguards
The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) remain steadfast in their mission to secure constitutional protections for Ladakh. The core of their ongoing negotiations with the central government centers on achieving safeguards similar to Article 371—a framework currently protecting the land, resources, and cultural identity of states like Nagaland and Sikkim.
By pushing for these specific legal guarantees, civil society groups aim to preserve the region’s unique heritage amidst rapid development. As discussions continue, these demands remain a pivotal focal point in defining Ladakh’s political autonomy and administrative future within India.
