Maharashtra Launches Statewide Stamp Duty Audit Drive
The Maharashtra government has initiated a statewide audit of stamp duty adjudication cases handled over the past five years following allegations of a possible ₹20,000-crore scam. The review aims to examine property registration records, assess revenue collection practices, and detect any irregularities that may have resulted in financial losses to the state exchequer.
The investigation is expected to identify instances of administrative lapses, misuse of authority, and procedural violations in stamp duty assessments. The audit reflects the government's efforts to strengthen transparency, improve accountability, and enhance efficiency in revenue administration and public financial management.
