Breakthrough in Ladakh Democratic Talks
A significant development unfolded as the Centre and Ladakh representatives reached an in-principle understanding regarding the region’s administrative future.
The Ministry of Home Affairs agreed to restore full democratic governance by creating an elected legislative assembly with a Chief Minister.
Furthermore, the Centre proposed constitutional safeguards for Ladakh's identity, land, and culture under Article 371, mimicking protections given to states like Nagaland and Mizoram. While full statehood remains on hold due to regional revenue constraints, local leaders view this as a major victory.
