Alwal, అక్టోబర్ 5:Telangana DGP C.V. Anand expressed immense relief over the safe rescue of all 12 SDRF and Fire Services personnel who were stranded in the heavy floodwaters in the Sathupalli region of Khammam district.
The incident occurred when rescue teams rushed to save five fishermen trapped in the floodwaters. Six SDRF personnel travelled in one boat, while five Fire Services personnel accompanied by a guide travelled in another. However, both boats capsized due to the strong current, leaving all 12 personnel stranded in the water.
The five fishermen were initially rescued with the assistance of NDRF and SDRF teams. Subsequently, an intensive search operation was launched to trace the missing rescue personnel. District Collector Divakar and SP Rohith Raju personally monitored the rescue efforts throughout the night.
Six personnel were located and brought safely to the shore during the night. Search operations resumed at daybreak, and the remaining six were traced by 6.45 am. Fortunately, all of them were wearing life jackets and knew how to swim. They survived the night by holding on to trees along the downstream stretch, despite facing severe anxiety and mental stress.
DGP C.V. Anand stated that the situation was continuously monitored from Hyderabad. Arrangements were also explored for deploying night-vision drones and a helicopter to assist the search operation during the night.
Appreciating the successful rescue operation, the DGP commended District Collector Divakar, SP Rohith Raju, their teams, NDRF and SDRF personnel, and everyone involved for their excellent coordination and dedicated efforts in bringing all 12 personnel to safety.
