Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide appeal for fuel conservation, Sikkim has become the first Indian state to formally launch an odd-even vehicle movement policy.
Enforced across state highways, the rule restricts private and government vehicles based on registration digits. Taxis and two-wheelers are currently exempt, and weekends remain unrestricted to prevent local commuting bottlenecks.
Leading by example, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang famously ditched his official convoy this week, choosing to walk over two kilometers to a state event to promote environmental austerity.
