Inquiry Commission Granted Fifth Extension
The Union Home Ministry has extended the tenure of the Manipur Commission of Inquiry by another six months.
Originally tasked with probing the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023, the panel, led by former Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan, now has until November 20, 2026, to submit its final report.
This fifth extension underscores the complexity of the investigation into the 260+ lives lost. Critics and victims alike hope this additional time will finally deliver the "lapses and dereliction of duty" assessments promised by the Centre.
