Man Found Unconscious on Bike Near Verna Bypass; Delay in Emergency Response Sparks Concern

VERNA: In a troubling incident near the Silica Petrol Pump along the Verna bypass road, a man was found unconscious while seated on his two-wheeler, drawing immediate concern from passersby and nearby residents.

Eyewitnesses reported that the man appeared slumped over his bike and unresponsive, prompting fears of a possible medical emergency or accident. Alarmed citizens promptly tried to reach out to emergency services by dialing 108—Goa’s official medical helpline.

Shockingly, several attempts to connect with the 108 helpline went unanswered or returned busy signals, causing a worrying delay in critical response time. The failure of the emergency line to respond in a time-sensitive situation has raised serious questions about the system’s effectiveness and accessibility during real-time crises.

Eventually, local authorities were notified through alternative channels, and emergency assistance was dispatched to the scene. As of this report, the identity and condition of the man remain unconfirmed.

The incident has reignited public calls for urgent reforms in Goa’s emergency response infrastructure, with many demanding that helplines be made fully reliable and responsive around the clock.

💬 Public Reactions:

🔹 “This is unacceptable. What’s the point of a helpline if it’s not reachable when it matters the most?” – Anil D., local resident
🔹 “We need a better backup system. Delays like these can cost lives.” – Reshma K., social worker
🔹 “The government must audit the 108 service urgently. Lives are at stake.” – Suresh M., health advocate

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the helpline lapse.
