The ambitious ₹48,862 crore International Container Transshipment Port at Galathea Bay has moved a step closer to reality following an in-principle recommendation from the PPP Appraisal Committee. Strategically positioned near the Malacca Strait, the port aims to rival Singapore and Colombo by capturing global east-west shipping traffic. While the project promises to transform Great Nicobar into a global economic pivot, discussions continue regarding its commercial viability and the substantial viability gap funding required to ensure the project's long-term financial sustainability.
