Supreme Court Declines to Modify Landmark Public Safety Order on Stray Dogs
In a major decision, the Supreme Court of India refused to modify its previous directives ordering the immediate removal of stray dogs from high-footfall public zones, including schools, hospitals, and railway stations.
Emphasizing that the right to life encompasses living free from the threat of attacks, a three-judge bench noted a severe lack of state efforts in implementing sterilization drives.
Crucially, the apex court clarified that dangerous or rabid dogs can face legally permitted euthanasia to protect human life.
