    Date: 13.03.2026

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, has urged citizens to take proactive steps to protect innocent people from falling prey to cybercriminals and to create widespread awareness about cybercrimes in society. He was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Cyber Simba’ volunteer orientation program held at the TG iCCC auditorium in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

Stressing the importance of public participation in curbing cybercrime, the Commissioner stated that the ‘Cyber Simba’ volunteer initiative was launched as part of the ‘Jagrut Hyderabad – Surakshit Hyderabad’ campaign. He advised citizens not to limit their WhatsApp group activities to sharing 'Good Morning' and 'Good Night' messages, but instead to actively share information and awareness messages regarding cyber security.

Highlighting the success of the initiative, he noted that since its launch in November last year, 1,717 volunteers have voluntarily registered for ‘Cyber Simba’. Through 5,118 door-to-door awareness programs, these volunteers have reached approximately two lakh people. He emphasized that spreading awareness about cyber safety is the most effective way to prevent these crimes.
He further cautioned that cybercriminals are now using sophisticated methods like Digital Arrest, fake trading, and investment scams to defraud even retired judges and educated professionals. He specifically warned women and youth to be extremely careful when interacting with strangers on social media.
Explaining the importance of the ‘Golden Hour’—the first hour after a cybercrime occurs—the Commissioner stated that reporting such incidents immediately to the 1930 helpline significantly increases the chances of recovering the lost money.
Additionally, he highlighted the 'C-Mitra' service, which allows victims to file an FIR online from the comfort of their homes without having to visit a police station. He noted that due to rising public awareness, the daily number of cybercrime complaints has decreased from 80 to 60, reflecting a positive impact on society.

Commissioner Sajjanar expressed his desire for this movement, aimed at making Hyderabad a ‘Cybercrime-Free City’, to expand across the entire country.

The event was attended by Additional CP (Crimes & SIT)Sri. M. Srinivasulu,IPS, DCPs A. Arvind Babu, Sri.S. Chaitanya Kumar,IPS, Sri.G. Chandramohan,Sri. B. Rajesh,Smt. Lavanya N. Jadhav, along with several other police officials and ‘Cyber Simba’ volunteers.

  • The Future of Investigative Journalism !
Investigative journalism has long been a cornerstone of a free and democratic society, exposing corruption, injustice, and abuses of power. However, in the digital age, investigative reporters face a unique set of challenges and opportunities that shape the landscape of their work.
    Challenges Facing Investigative Journalists
    1. Information Overload:
    ○ The sheer volume of information available online can be overwhelming. Journalists must sift through vast amounts of data to find credible sources and pertinent information, making it challenging to discern what is relevant and trustworthy.
    2. Misinformation and Disinformation:
    ○ The rise of fake news and misinformation campaigns poses a significant threat to investigative journalism. Reporters must navigate a complex landscape where distinguishing fact from fiction is increasingly difficult, requiring rigorous fact-checking and verification processes.
    3. Digital Security Risks:
    ○ Investigative journalists often work on sensitive stories that can attract backlash from powerful entities. This has led to heightened concerns about digital security, including hacking, surveillance, and threats to personal safety. Protecting sources and maintaining confidentiality is more critical than ever.
    4. Funding and Resources:
    ○ With the decline of traditional media outlets and advertising revenue, funding for investigative journalism has decreased. Many news organizations struggle to allocate resources for long-term investigations, leading to a reliance on shorter, less in-depth reporting.
    5. Audience Engagement:
    ○ In an era of instant gratification, capturing and maintaining audience attention can be challenging. Investigative reports often require a significant investment of time and resources, making it difficult to engage audiences who prefer quick news bites.
    Opportunities for Investigative Journalists
    1. Access to Advanced Tools and Technologies:
    ○ The digital age offers journalists access to sophisticated tools for data analysis, social media monitoring, and secure communication. These technologies enable investigative reporters to uncover hidden patterns, track stories across multiple platforms, and collaborate securely with sources.
    2. Crowdsourcing and Citizen Journalism:
    ○ Social media platforms and online communities provide opportunities for crowdsourcing information and tips from the public. This can lead to valuable insights and help uncover stories that may not have been accessible through traditional channels.
    3. Global Reach and Collaboration:
    ○ The internet allows investigative journalists to collaborate with peers across the globe. This can lead to impactful cross-border investigations that expose international corruption, human rights abuses, and more.
    4. Multimedia Storytelling:
    ○ Digital platforms enable journalists to present their findings in diverse formats, such as videos, podcasts, and interactive graphics. This not only enhances engagement but also allows for more nuanced storytelling that can reach wider audiences.
    5. Increased Public Demand for Transparency:
    ○ Growing public awareness and concern about issues like government accountability, corporate malfeasance, and social justice have increased demand for investigative reporting. Audiences are more engaged and supportive of journalistic efforts that seek to uncover the truth.

  • The Evolution of News Consumption

Over the years, the way audiences consume news has undergone significant transformations. The transition from print to digital media, along with the rise of new formats like podcasts and video journalism, has reshaped not only how information is disseminated but also how audiences engage with news.
    Shift from Print to Digital
    1. Historical Context: In the past, print media—newspapers and magazines—was the primary source of news. People relied on physical copies delivered to their doorsteps or purchased at newsstands. The traditional model revolved around scheduled publication cycles, typically daily or weekly.
    2. Advent of the Internet: The rise of the internet in the late 20th century marked a turning point in news consumption. With instant access to information online, audiences began to shift away from print. Websites became news portals, allowing readers to access stories at their convenience.
    3. Mobile Revolution: The proliferation of smartphones further accelerated this transition. News apps and social media platforms allowed users to consume news anytime, anywhere. Notifications and real-time updates became the norm, leading to a more immediate engagement with current events.
    4. Audience Preferences: Research indicates that younger audiences, in particular, prefer digital platforms for news consumption. They favor quick, digestible content that fits into their fast-paced lifestyles. This shift has led traditional media outlets to adapt their strategies to attract these audiences, often by developing their online presence and engaging with audiences through social media.
    Rise of Podcasting
    1. Growing Popularity: Podcasts have seen a meteoric rise in popularity in the last decade. With their on-demand nature, podcasts allow listeners to consume news while multitasking—during commutes, workouts, or household chores. This flexibility has attracted a diverse audience looking for convenience.
    2. Diverse Content: The podcasting landscape is incredibly diverse, with shows covering a wide array of topics, including politics, social issues, and investigative journalism. This variety appeals to niche audiences, allowing listeners to choose content that resonates with their interests.
    3. Intimacy and Engagement: The format of podcasting fosters a sense of intimacy and connection between hosts and listeners. The conversational style and storytelling techniques used in many podcasts engage audiences on a personal level, making news feel more relatable and accessible.
    4. Influence on Journalism: Many traditional news organizations have launched their own podcasts, blending journalistic integrity with the engaging storytelling style characteristic of the medium. This trend has created a hybrid approach to news consumption, where audio storytelling complements written articles and broadcasts.
    Rise of Video Journalism
    1. Visual Appeal: Video journalism has gained traction as audiences increasingly prefer visual content. Platforms like YouTube, social media, and news apps now prioritize video stories, catering to the preference for visual learning and engagement.
    2. Real-Time Coverage: Live video broadcasts and on-the-scene reporting have become crucial in breaking news scenarios. The immediacy of video allows audiences to witness events as they unfold, providing a sense of being part of the action and enhancing the emotional impact of news stories.
    3. Short-Form Content: With the rise of platforms like TikTok and Instagram, short-form video content has emerged as a popular way to consume news. Brief, engaging clips can deliver key information quickly, appealing to audiences with limited attention spans.
Multi-Platform Strategy: Many news organizations now employ a multi-platform strategy, using videos to complement articles and social media posts. This approach maximizes audience reach and engagement, allowing audiences to interact with news content in ways that suit their preferences.
